A small reprieve

It’s been a while since hubby and I had a minute to ourselves. In the first year or so we were together, we were always running off somewhere, even if it was just driving around for three or four hours on some Illinois backroad where we’d never been. Lately, we keep saying “we really need to go do something together,” but money’s been tight and there’s just no time anymore.

Tonight, thanks to a free Veteran’s Day meal for him and a little extra money from my weekend photo session, we finally managed to get out of the house and spend a little time together. It was a brief-ish date night for us, but we still hit all the high points–Starbucks and Barnes & Noble, to be specific. The best part was, we came home to a house that was exactly as we left it–no cheese wrappers on the counter, no mugs with hot cocoa dregs, no crumbled potato chips on the floor. The kids, needless to say, aren’t here tonight; they’ve gone to their friends’ house because they don’t have school tomorrow.

I have no idea what the hell we’re going to do with ourselves, but I suspect it’s going to end up involving an earlier-than-usual bedtime. Now…don’t go reading anything skanky into that, because all it really means is that we ate way too much and we’re unusually tired from the dearth of nicotine in our systems now that we’ve been smoke free for four days. Seriously, I can’t quit yawning to save my life.
